8-Week Foundations of Drawing Course

This course welcomes students of all skill levels, focusing on the development of both artistic vision and technical accuracy. You’ll learn to observe the world more closely and translate what you see onto paper with confidence. We’ll explore a range of drawing techniques—from contour and gesture drawing to more refined methods—and practice combining them effectively. Along the way, we’ll study light and shadow to create lifelike, expressive drawings that capture the depth and nuance of real-world scenes.

18″ x 24″ pad of newsprint paper
Fine point permanent markers
Charcoal, vine, or compressed charcoal (avoid the fat-squared compressed varieties)
Kneaded eraser
Art chamois (chamois from the auto part stores are more economical)

8-Week Drawing the Human Form

Unlock the expressive power of the human form in Drawing the Human Spirit, an immersive 8-week figure drawing course at Alvarez Art School. Designed for artists of all levels, this course blends classical techniques with contemporary approaches to help you capture gesture, anatomy, and emotion with confidence and clarity.

Through live model sessions, dynamic exercises, and guided critiques, you’ll explore:

  • ✏️ Gesture drawing to capture movement and energy
  • 🧠 Proportions and anatomy for believable structure
  • 🌟 Light, shadow, and form to create depth and drama
  • 🖌️ Expressive linework and mark-making to develop personal style
  • 🧍‍♂️ Long and short poses to refine observation and technique

Whether you’re building a portfolio, reigniting your creative spark, or simply curious about the human figure, this course offers a supportive and inspiring environment to grow your skills. By the end, you’ll have a body of work that reflects not just technical growth—but your unique artistic voice

Plein Air Painting 

Push your creative boundaries in this immersive three-day workshop set against the stunning backdrop of Colorado’s fall season. Whether you’re a beginner, a seasoned artist, or somewhere in between, this experience is designed to help you grow and refine your ability to depict the local landscape.

Kids’ Art Camp!

Kids’ Art Camp invites children to discover the joy of creating with a variety of 2D and 3D materials. Through fun, hands-on activities like drawing to music, collage, rubbings, and more, campers will explore imaginative, non-representational art. All supplies and materials are included.

Plein Air Painting Retreat!
